HYTELNET-Mac version 6.3
READ.ME FILE
October 15, 1992
HYTELNET-MAC has been written specifically for those users who access the
Telnet utility from a Macintosh personal computer. This version is
a direct port from the PC version of Hytelnet. The PC files may be used
from this version, at the end of every line you will see a linefeed character
(a small empty box).
** Minimum System Requiremnets **
Macintosh Plus (some of the functions will be slow on 68000 class computers)
1Mb Ram memory (2.5 under system 7)
1.5M free hard disk space
System 6.0.5
HyperCard 2.0 -- if requested I will release a HyperCard 1.2x version.
** Installation **
Create a Hytelnet folder on your hard drive, place the Hytelnet stack
in the folder. Place the Hytelnet Data folder in the Hytelnet folder.

Instructions: README goes into 'Hytelnet data' folder
**Usefull files**

**Macintosh version of Hytelnet**
Charles Burchill of the University of Manitoba wrote the front end for the
Macintosh version of HYTELNET. Inquires regarding this version should be
sent to burchil@ccu.umanitoba.ca. This version is avialable at the
anonymous ftp site access.usask.ca.
- Use the mouse to move around the Hytelnet Information.
To see a new field click over the item name in rectangular brackets.
e.g. <US203X>
- Click over the start button to return to the starting screen.
- Click over the Go Back button to retrace your steps
- The up and down arrow keys select items (Mac II or better).
- The left and right arrow keys backup or open selected items
(Mac II or better).
- Click over the Word Telnet or TN3270, or click over the 'Go for it"
button to launch Telent (TN3270). If character jump is set you
can press the return key to launch telnet or open selected items.
- If you want to print out the information in a specific field
choose 'Print Field' from the file menu. Choose the 'data' field to print.
- Click over the field name for a pop up menu of the last 15 fields.
Configuration
- When 'Character jump' is checked entering a character will select
the first site starting with that character. The return key will also
open selected items, and launch telnet when appropriate.
- If you want to use the PC files or Mac files over a network click over
the 'Network' button and find the START.TXT file. The path name to
this file will be stored in the HyperCard stack. If the network button
is not checked the Hytelnet stack must be in the same folder as
the Hytelnet data.
- The Telnet and TN3270 progams along with their respective config files can
be renamed and saved in any location tha you choose. Besure to tell
Hytelnet where these files will be located using the configuration dialog.
(yes I know this is not a real dialog, and every thing is on the same card).
- Convert mail will convert mail recieved from the LIB_HYTELNET list into
appropriatly named files in the appropriate directories. The mail subjects
(site info) will be saved into a seperate file for adding to the
appropriate site listing. This could not be done automatically because of
the way the US sites are cataloged.
History
First Public Release 1.0.5
1.0.6
- Several new files added
- Properly open Telnet and TN3270
- Arrow keys added (improved, Mac II class computers or better)
1.0.8
- Several new files added
- Added popup menu of last 15 items
- Goback limited to last 15 items
- Several of the information files modified
- An option that allows you to to jump to the first site starting
with a typed character. This feature is limited to the Area
lists only.
1.0.9
- Many new files have been added
- Some general scripting improvements (Yes it is still in HC 2.x format)
- There is a general find that can be used to find site names. This addition
is pretty limited. It is limited to the first two levels after START.TXT.
It would be inefficient to search files below this point.
1.1.0
- Changed the way the popup menu works. Now there are no duplicates
in the list. May be a little slower.
- Go Back was expanded to twenty items, and the counter was removed.
2.0.0
- File/directory structure consistant with Unix, PC versions. This means
that you will be able to share the Hytelnet files over a network.
- Will still work with old format.
- Network button added to allow location of the 'Hytelnet data' folder in
another location or have another name. If this button is not checked the
Hytelnet stack must be in the same folder as the data folder.
2.0.1
- Fixed a bug in the goback and flnme handlers which did not properly update
the goback variable when the files where in subdirectories.
- removed some unnecessary calls from many places - yes I know there
is still alot of spag. code.
- The name of the site that you were just at is now selected when you
goback. This will occasionally make the arrow keys faster and
some other keys if "Character jump" is checked.
6.2
- Numbering scheme changed to match Peter Scott's
- Many new and updated files
- Files that have a period in the middle should open properly now
6.2.2
- Finder Events XCMD added to allow the use of some apple events to communicate
with the finder. This is mainly used to open Telnet and TN3270 without
having to worry about the name or location of the program.
- Configuration items have been moved to a configuration dialog.
- Using the Configuration settings the Telnet, and TN3270 applications can
have other names and be located in a variety of locations, along with the
configuration files.
- A button has been added that will extract the site files from letters coming
from the LIB_HYTELNET mailing list. The headers will be stripped and the file will be saved in
the appropriate folder with the name that occurs in the letter. The
site names will be saved in a seperate file "New Site Names 'current date'".
The site name lists are not automatically updated.
6.3
- Fixed a problem with the default button in the configuration. The path was
not properly set, now it is.
- Added lots of comments to the stack script
- Changed mail conversion so it does not kick you out until you cancel the
open dialog. Still will only read one letter at a time.
- Changed mail conversion so it will not crash when reading a file that has
no data directory. File is just saved in the Hytelnet Data folder.
I would like to thank the many people that have made suggestions regarding the
setup and layout of Hytelnet.
Thanks to Tim Neese for rewriting some of the code for opening
telnet and TN3270.
